Zeolite is said to help the body detoxify and has become popular among health seekers. Simon Brett tested it out for a month and here he reports on this experiences.
Liquid Activated Zeolite (LAZ) is a substance that can remove heavy metals from the body. Zeolite is a class of “super clay” produced when lava flow meets sea water and cools quickly.
The structure of zeolite is honeycomb-like, and it has a natural affinity for toxic heavy metals such as uranium, cadmium, lead, mercury and aluminium. In its natural state, zeolite contains numerous heavy metals, so it is heated to extremely high temperatures in order to remove them (anathema though this may be to raw foodists, zeolite is not metabolized, so the question of whether it is “raw” is irrelevant!).
Once clean, the zeolite is suspended in water and can be taken in droplet form. It is easy to mix with food or drink, or can be dripped directly onto the tongue (after some experimentation, I settled upon taking mine in a glass of water).
The zeolite enters the body “hungry” and attracts heavy metals and other toxic debris on its journey. Approximately five to seven hours after being ingested, the zeolite (plus whatever it has picked up) is excreted. Simple.
I’ve been able to discover very few cautions regarding the use of LAZ. One, however, is that it can contribute to dehydration. Therefore it’s very important to drink at least two litres of water per day whilst using LAZ.
David Wolfe, another advocate, also mentions that LAZ helps to break down calcium phosphate structures in the body. This breakdown can unleash toxins stored beneath the calcium phosphate, so it’s a good idea to use a natural antibiotic such as garlic in combination with LAZ (as I write, I can hear the grumbles of any Natural Hygienists reading this!). Finally, anyone taking medications containing lithium or platinum is advised against using LAZ simply because it will attract them out of the body.
My experiences
I began cautiously, starting off at “maintenance dose” (three drops, three times per day) and soon working up to seven drops, three times per day. In the first three months, many people use more than this, (between ten and fifteen drops, three times per day). Seven felt right to me, however, and I maintained this dose fairly consistently during the course of the experiment. Incidentally, the reason for splitting the dose into three is that the zeolite takes about five to seven hours to pass through the body. In order to maintain levels in the body, therefore, it makes sense to take it at regular intervals.
This property also gives zeolite great flexibility. If the detox feels too intense, simply skip a dose. I didn’t do this, although on one occasion I squeezed a bottle too hard and the top fell off, depositing probably between a third and a half of a bottle into a glass of water. Not knowing what else to do, I knocked back the whole lot, which led to a few intense moments!
On a serious note, the tops of the bottles do sometimes become blocked, so it’s a good idea to keep a pin or similar to hand to avoid the risk both of an überdose and a lot of wastage.
The first three days of using LAZ I was on a bit of a high. I slept less than I usually do, yet felt highly energised. This honeymoon period came to an end, however, and I returned to earth. What remained was a feeling of mental clarity and an enhanced ability to concentrate, which has been improving steadily.
Over the following three and a half weeks, I went through various phases. During each one, I felt that some part of my body appeared to be healing. Often I experienced an improved range of movement, and wondered whether some calcium phosphate debris had been broken down.
Perhaps the most striking example of this was the first, my right shoulder. I was told a while ago by a massage therapist that there was a lot of scar tissue beneath my right shoulder blade. Through diligent yoga and meditation practice, I noticed gradual improvement. But on day eight of using LAZ, I began to feel an intense ache underneath the entire shoulder blade.
This ache stayed with me for a day or so, and then faded. The best way I can describe the sensation that remained was that I felt as though my whole right shoulder had dropped back into place. A similar process took place with an old knee injury. It felt painful again for a brief stint, then much better. Emotionally, as well, this became a theme: revisiting old events that held emotional significance and processing them so that I felt differently about them.
There were periods during the month when I slept quite a lot, and I spent one week with a cold the like of which I haven’t known for years. It’s impossible to say for sure whether these experiences were related to LAZ intake. What I will say is that I noticed changes in myself at these times: once I began sleeping normally again I felt more deeply rested; when the cold finally cleared I felt a great sense of clarity of vision.
Another benefit has been improved communication with the people around me, and a curious side-effect has been a desire to tidy things up! Most recently, however, and perhaps most significantly, I’ve noticed a change in the area of my liver. In Chinese medicine, the liver is the body’s planner. Also, certain hours of the day are associated with each organ: the liver is most active between 1am and 3am.
About two thirds of the way through the experiment, I began to experience pain in the area of the liver, followed by a shifting of energy and an accompanying physical realignment. On occasion I’ve woken up between 1 and 3 – apparently a sure sign that the liver is working hard. Corroborating these patterns, I’ve noticed an increased ability to think ahead.
To conclude, this exploration of the potential of LAZ has become a firm commitment to continue using it, and to share it with others who wish to benefit from it. I’m convinced enough of the value of LAZ to make it an important aspect of maintaining my health. Gabriel Cousens, MD, writes that he believes “this most unique, natural substance is an alchemical gift from God to help us face our present-day health challenges”. I certainly feel that it has been, and continues to be, a gift in my life.
