Chronic inflammation is linked to many diseases including, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, IBS, heart disease and even some cancers. We don't have to resign ourselves to thinking its a natural part of our life cycle. Its not normal, in fact, it is most often caused by poor food choices and stressful lifestyles which are accelerating the ageing process and the onset of many health concerns associated with it.
When we experience physical symptoms associated with inflammation, eg. swollen joints, psoriasis etc there is also an internal reaction taking place. The bodies immune system is in overdrive and this can cause tiredness, aches and pains, amongst other symptoms.
By choosing whole foods which your body can easily digest and metabolise, a natural detoxing process will begin to take place. Some of natures specific foods with anti-inflammatory properties include, cherries, pineapple, papaya, blueberries, ginger, avocado, turmeric, chia, walnuts and hemp. These can easily be incorporated into your daily diet in smoothies and juices.
It is also vital to find healthy ways to de-stress that can be practiced regularly. This could be yoga, walking in nature, watching a comedy, whatever works for you. An over-stressed body will not be receptive to digesting and assimilating the healthy nutrients you are consuming. There is also now research showing the connection between mind and body and how every thought and emotion we feel is translated by the brain and transferred to the cells of our bodies - so we want to keep it as positive as we can!
I have first hand experience of the impact these changes can have - several years ago I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease. There was no cure, I was told my only treatment option was steroid injections and highly toxic drugs. This led me to begin my journey exploring alternative treatment methods, including the amazing effect food choices, specifically a high raw diet, can have on the body. I am now able to manage my condition and its symptoms with healthy food choices and reducing my stress levels with yoga and relaxation.
I know that if my food choices slide or I allow myself to become over stressed, my body sends me clear signals and I then respond by getting myself back on track.
It's not about rigid rules or over-complicating things. You don't have to be 100% raw or cut out food groups. Start by making changes that feel comfortable and achievable for you. Small changes equal big results. Keep it simple and natural, eating foods in their most natural state gives the maximum nutrients in an easily assimilated form. Let go of any limiting beliefs, get yourself a blender - buy one if your budget allows, check eBay or borrow one. Then start nourishing your body - I challenge you to try this and not feel better.
